Everything You Need to Know About Industrial Pressure Washing

At its simplest form, pressure washing is just the application of water under pressure to remove materials from surfaces. It is a highly effective method to clean buildup when applied correctly. Depending on the material that needs to be removed and the material it is being removed from, water temperature and additional chemicals (soaps/chemicals) can improve efficiency. The amount of pressure that is used to clean the surface, while not harming the surface, is equally important. We have experience pressure washing the following areas:

  • Industrial Interiors and Exteriors
  • Tanks, Machinery,
  • Floors & Manufacturing Surfaces
  • Concrete & Other Surfaces

Depending on your industry, you will need a pressure washing service at least once or twice a year. This type of industrial cleaning service keeps your equipment running its best and reduces the risk that can affect your equipment.

Hydroblastingis the term used for high pressure removal applications (10K, 20K, 40K PSI), and will be covered in a separate blog.

What is pressure washing used for?

There are many instances in an industrial setting where a pressure washing service may be needed. Removing hard to clean materials is the most common reason. This includes removing grease or oil contamination, chemicals, mold & mildew, as well as some surface preparation needs for painting.

How does a pressure washer work?

Pressure washers are part hose and part air compressor. A pressure washer can have a gas-fueled engine or an electrical powered motor that powers a water pump. The pump accelerates the water, supplied from a water source (hose or tank), to produce high pressure. The washer is hooked to a high pressure-rated hose. At the end of the hose is a water gun that distributes the pressurized water via nozzle (various types). When the trigger is pulled, the water mixes with the air and comes out of the nozzle. Pressure washers are commonly rated by PSI and GPM ratings (pressure and flow). Overall cleaning performance is determined by how these work together. Operation of the pressure washer is also critical, and why choosing the right contractor, with experience and expertise is so important.

Our clients turn to us when they need a solution. Who would have thought that food manufacturing facilities need industrial cleaning or industrial maintenance? If you think about it, a food manufacturing facility is just a chemical facility with a different purpose, they make food products. The chemist in me has to remind others that they are called ingredients instead of chemicals, but the processes can be remarkably similar. They use ovens to heat things up, they use water that is prepared for use in products, they have to keep certain equipment heated/cooled. They use various oils, solids, liquids as ingredients. They have confined spaces, they need external support when the work becomes bigger than the regular maintenance crew can handle (think outages).
