Industrial Cleaning and Decontamination of Large Facility

Industrial Cleaning and Decontamination of Large Facility

First Environmental Nationwide was awarded the decontamination work of a large manufacturing plant, which consists of 1.3 million square feet under roof.  Completion time of the project is three (3) months, utilizing multiple crews and a fleet of equipment.

The building had previously been used in the manufacturing of steel parts and, as a result, the site was blanketed in oil.

All floor surfaces, basements, tunnels, trenches, underground piping, underground tanks, above ground tanks, required  cleaning by removal of standing oils, greases, industrial sludges, and manufacturing-related oil-soaked debris and by-product (example:  grinding swarf (mixture of coolant and metal fines)).

In addition, many sections of the building contained an extensive network of shovel – wide 24” deep trenches (utilized to catch by product from machines that previously existed) that contain standing oils and oil soaked debris.

Petroleum Spill - Railcar and Tank Release

Petroleum Spill - Railcar and Tank Release

When our clients have unfortunate emergencies, First Environmental Nationwide is ready to respond.  In this case, 22,000 gallons of petroleum had been released from a railcar due to a mechanical failure.

After a very long seven (7) continual days of clean- up efforts of our crews, utilizing excavators, back hoes, and earth moving equipment, the project was complete.  However, less than six (6) hours later a tank mechanical failure occurred on the same site causing another spill of the same product.

Fortunately for our client, the spill was not as large (14,000 gallons).  The response by our crews allowed us quick containment, keeping overtime and emergency rates down for our client.  The site was able to be completed during normal business hours.

Remember the USS Cole

The destroyer, unable to sail under its own steam, was carried into a cold & choppy Pascagoula Bay by the heavy-lift vessel Blue Marlin after a 6 week voyage from Yemen.
